Farewell, Virginsky. Farewell, Porfiry Petrovich.

I’ve just typed ‘THE END’ on my latest writing project, the final book in my Empire of Shadows trilogy featuring the investigating magistrate, Pavel Pavlovich Virginsky. I now have to read the book through, give it a thorough edit and then submit it to my publisher.

I have to admit, I choked up a little as I wrote the final scene. Finishing a book always provokes a strange mixture of emotions. You’re relieved at getting to the end, but also sad to realise that you won’t be spending any more time in the company of this particular set of imaginary people.

What’s next for me? Right now, I don’t know. I’m mulling over a few ideas. But it feels like Christmas is only just around the corner. Maybe I will take it easy for a few months. It will be good to catch up on some reading. Please drop any book recommendations in the comments. (Does anybody comment on blogs any more or is it just mine that feels like a ghost town with tumbleweed blowing through it?)

Anyhow, I think I deserve a treat. Chocolate or new notebook? Or both?
