Spines are important. The spines of books, I’m talking about. Especially if your books don’t make it onto the front tables at Waterstones. They have to tell their own story, giving just a brief glimpse of what’s inside. And usually they are competing against a whole shelfful of other spines. It’s even harder to design a stand-out spine than it is a stand-out cover. I think I’ve been really fortunate with my spines over the years. The designers have seized the opportunity to create a wonderful stripe of mystery and intrigue. Nice to see them all together like this, snapped by my mate, the very talented Callum Furminger.
