Real Vikings don’t eat quiche

New podcast launches

This week sees the launch of an epic new podcast series, Real Vikings, from the Noiser Network. Yes, I know the word epic is overused. But in this case, it’s justified, believe me.

I was fortunate to work as a scriptwriter on the show, writing half the episodes. It was about a year ago when I filed my last script. The episodes combine immersive storytelling with expert background from proper Viking experts. The sound designers, composers and editors at Noiser are certified geniuses, so you can be sure that the finished product really does sound… well, epic.

The narrator is Iain Glen, who you may know from Game of Thrones.

The show has already been picked out by the Guardian in their round-up of the week’s best podcasts.

Listen to it on Apple, Spotify, Audible or wherever you get your podcasts.

In other news…

I’ve written a couple of articles, which you are very welcome to read if you fancy. The first was a piece for Writers Online, called Writing About Writers. As you may or may not be aware, the protagonist of my new novel Cover Story is a struggling writer called Col Newton. If you want to know how much of a stretch it was for me to create this character, check out the article.

The second was for Aspects of Crime. The title – How I Tricked AI Into Thinking One Of My Characters Is Real – should give you some idea of what that one’s about. It features a rare photograph of publicity-shy Col Newton. Given that he is very nervous about his own security, Col has naturally taken measures to disguise his identity.

Shed of the week

This newsletter was meant to go out yesterday to coincide with the launch of Real Vikings, but I got distracted by the need to build a bike shed.

Even the tireless work of bothering my loyal blog readers had to take a back seat.

The blatant plug

Just in case you missed it, I’ve got a new book out, Cover Story. It’s been getting some great responses, including this one from thriller writer Cass Green:

You can download the ebook here, or buy the paperback here.

Other books are available, but I recommend you read mine first.
