Publishers Weekly (no apostrophe, apparently) in the States have given Summon Up The Blood a starred review, calling it “this superior whodunit”. The reviewer also says “his hero’s wrestling with his own inner demons makes a nice change from the typically unreflective historical detective”. Is that really the case with most historical detectives? What do you think? Are detectives in historical crime fiction less reflective than their contemporary counterparts? Feel free to comment.
Oh, the full review is here, or was the last time I looked.
